If you are on a budget, then taking public transportation will be perfectly fine. Though it’s not as glamorous as calling a cab or an Uber, it’s still a cost-efficient solution for you to get home – rather than sleep at night in a cell because you’re arrested for DUI.

8. Be Conscious of Your Alcohol Tolerance

Generally speaking, an average person can metabolize one standard drink in one hour. One standard drink means 12 fluid ounces of beer or 5 fluid ounces of wine.

Also, your body weight affects your capacity to digest alcohol, and oftentimes, the heavier you are, the slower it will be. In contrast, it never directly means that thinner people can metabolize alcohol faster since genes and health conditions matter as well.

9. Always Eat Before Drinking

  • Mouth: A few percentages of the alcohol is absorbed by your body through your mouth and tongue.
  • Stomach: As the alcohol reaches your stomach, around 20% of it is absorbed by your system.
  • Small intestine: Lastly, approximately 75% to 85% of the remaining alcohol content is absorbed by your small intestines.

When you’ve eaten before drinking, the food particles inside your stomach prevent alcohol from easily being absorbed by the small intestine. It stays longer in your stomach, so it isn’t mixed in your blood.

On average, alcohol reaches your brain in 5 to 10 minutes after it gets dissolved in the bloodstream. In a few moments, its sedative and mood-altering effects kick in, while you’ll slowly lose muscle control.

This loss of control with your muscles and body coordination highly contributes to drunk driving, which leads to severe vehicular accidents on the road.

10. Call A Family Member or Friend To Pick You Up

If you don’t have any cash left to call an Uber or a cab, then you can ask a favor from your family or best friend to pick you up from the party. It might be a slight hassle on their part, but definitely, they would understand considering the risk of drunk driving.

Also, you can ask them that favor beforehand, so that they can also allocate that time to pick you up and drive you home.
